Zweli Mkhize, Health Minister said that over 3,500 beds are put into operation within the Eastern Cape, but there'll be a requirement for more capacity.
The minister visited the province amid concerns of an entire collapse of the healthcare system.
The Eastern Cape has recorded an unprecedented 400 new COVID-19 related facilities within the last 24-hour cycle.

Mkhize said a team would be meeting on Thursday afternoon to mapped out the bureaucratic processes related to employing more healthcare professionals so as to supply relief to existing staff.
“All folks know that for an extended time there have been vacancies and posts that were frozen, then they were running an outsized number of vacancies. That we've had to affect , so we are encouraging the provincial department to open the database and confirm that we get as many of the staff as possible.”
The Eastern Cape has registered over 67,000 confirmed cases.
More than 1,300 people have succumbed to the virus within the province.
