Three unknown men forced an entry a Mooi River couple’s farmhouse on P18 road within the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands while having dinner in their farmhouse.
The couple named Isla and Allen was attacked by some men who brutally assaulted the couple and stole from them also .
According to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Col Thembeka Mbele, a case of house robbery has already been opened. it had been reported that the lads brutally assaulted a 31-year-old man, took some cash and a Bluetooth speaker and fled the scene on foot. The victim was immediately taken to the hospital for medical attention.
DA agriculture and rural development spokesperson within the province, Christopher Pappas, visited the couple at the Hilton Life Hospital where Allen was being treated for his injuries on Monday night.
Pappas said the growing number of incidents in rural and farming communities should be a priority for all South Africans. He also proffered some solutions which will curb these vices.
“While some prefer to divide the country on the difficulty of farm and rural safety, the DA in KwaZulu-Natal has suggests solutions which will help to curb the trends. These include directly subsidising security initiatives in rural and farming communities, like farm watches and patrols, utilising technology like drones and licence plate recognition cameras in rural areas, categorising farm attacks and murders as hate crimes, establishing court watching briefs to trace the progress of cases, and introducing properly resourced rural safety units and monitoring these through a fanatical provincial safety directorate within the police.”
